Ortelius was a cosmographer, cartographer and publisher in Antwerp who started off as a map colourist in 1547. He travelled to Italy and France with G. Mercator. In 1575, he was appointed ?Royal Geographer? to King Philip of Spain. He is best known for his work ?Theatrum Orbis Theatrum?.
Luis Teixeira was the cartographer to the court of King Philip of Spain. His manuscript map is the origin of Ortelius? map of Japan.
