George Wolfgang Knorr (1705-1761), a German paleontologist, was a painter, draftsman, engraver, and later in his life a collector and art dealer. He worked as illustrator on Scheuchzer's Physica Sacra (1731). The here shown copper engravings are from his book on shells; they are all original coloured, and the plate size measures 24 x 18 cm.
